Protected conversations to terminate employment– how can employers use them?
Pre-termination negotiations are a useful tool to help an employer and an employee have an ‘off-the-record’ discussion to explore the possibility of ending the employment relationship on mutually agreeable terms.
In-depth: The Autumn Budget 2024 – what this means for employers
On 30 October 2024, the Chancellor of the Exchequer delivered the 2024 Budget. Not only was this significant as it is the Labour Government’s first Budget since coming into office; it was also delivered by the UK’s first female Chancellor, Rachel Reeves.
No requirement to hold ‘general workforce consultation’ when making small scale redundancies
It has long been established that collective consultation is only required when an employer is proposing to make 20 or more employees redundant within a 90-day period. Otherwise, only individual consultation with employees is mandatory for a fair process. This well-established rule was thrown into question in the case of Haycocks v. ADP RPO UK Ltd.
