Gordons donates £10,000 Christmas party budget to Trussell Trust and Leeds and Bradford food banks

Wednesday 18th November 2020

Gordons has donated its £10,000 staff Christmas party budget to two local food banks in Leeds and Bradford and nationwide foodbank charity The Trussell Trust.

In recognition of the fact that many families and individuals will struggle this winter due to the impact of Covid-19, our donation to the Bradford Central and Leeds North & West food banks will help local people. In addition, we are making a further donation to The Trussell Trust to support the charities work across the UK.

According to research carried out by The Trussell Trust and Heriot Watt University, 846,000 parcels will need to be provided nationwide by the trust’s food bank network during October to December 2020. This represents a 61 per cent increase on last year.

More than 50 per cent of people using food banks in The Trussell Trust’s network at the start of the pandemic had never needed one before.

Commenting on the donation, Josie Barlow, food bank manager at Bradford Central Foodbank, said: “Thank you to everyone at Gordons for your amazingly generous donation. This is such a lot of money for us and as a result we will be able to help thousands of people who are the most vulnerable and hungry. It is especially important as we are coming into the winter and with more redundancies looming the firm’s donation couldn’t have come at a better time.”

Our executive board came up with the idea of donating the budget to the food banks and have been supported by everyone at the firm.

Gordons partner and executive board member, Victoria Davey, added: “The food banks are working extremely hard to support people who are struggling at his time and  the Trussell Trust is doing an outstanding job in campaigning to help end UK hunger and the need for food banks.

“By donating, everyone at Gordons knows we will be directly helping people less fortunate than ourselves in the region, not just during winter, but also during a pandemic.

“We are proud of how our people have supported this initiative and have received some lovely feedback from our colleagues. They are very pleased with how we have turned the cancellation of our Christmas party into something which will provide so many people with food, help and support.”

The Trussell Trust was founded in 1997 and today supports 1,200 food bank centres across the UK. For more information on The Trussell Trust visit www.trusselltrust.org
