Gordons to explore innovation in absence management
Friday 11th July 2014
Employment lawyers from Yorkshire law firm Gordons will hold an interactive seminar titled Reducing the Cost of Absence on July 16 at its offices on Whitehall Road, Leeds. The event will run between 8am and 10.00am.
The free seminar, hosted jointly with Baildon-based health and wellbeing intermediary PHP, will examine innovative approaches for reducing the cost of sickness absence and promoting health and wellbeing in the workplace.
Building an attendance culture has been identified as key to reducing the cost of sickness absence which according to a PWC report in 2013 costs the UK economy around £29billion, and results in British workers taking four times as many days off sick than some of their global counterparts.
Philip Paget, employment law partner at Gordons, said: “Sickness absence not only has a significant financial cost, but can also have huge operational implications for any business. Employee absence can directly impact service delivery, affecting their reputation and potentially undermining employee morale, as colleagues cover for absent staff.
“It is always better to prevent absence rather than react to issues caused by it. Creating an attendance culture at work can help achieve this. A positive approach to attendance can help companies reduce costs, boost morale and improve operational effectiveness.”
The seminar will cover developing an absence management policy, best practices in the short, medium and long term and the financial aspects to take into consideration.
Jan Lawson, Group managing director at PHP said: “It is vital to remember that you and your staff are your most valuable assets, and your business couldn’t manage without them. We can help guide you through the maze of health related services & schemes for your employees to give you the best return on your investment, so that you can concentrate on what you’re good at – running your business.”
Attendees will register between 8.00am and 8.30am, when a networking breakfast will be available. They will have the opportunity to chat with presenters and representatives of Gordons and PHP after the seminar.
