Gordons enters largest ever corporate team at this year’s Age UK Leeds Abbey Dash

Thursday 24th October 2019

Gordons has entered what is believed to be the largest ever corporate team in this year’s Age UK Leeds Abbey Dash which takes place on Sunday, 27 October.

Comprising more than 60 runners, Gordons’ team will tackle the 10k road race whilst aiming to raise £3,000 for the charity’s operations in the Bradford district. The firm has offices in Bradford and Leeds.

This is the Abbey Dash’s 35th year and the course stretches from Leeds city centre to Kirkstall Abbey and back again, starting on the Headrow at 9:30am.

Age UK is the country’s largest charity for people in later life. The charity has been operating in Bradford for more than 25 years, and today has 40 dedicated staff and more than 300 volunteers helping deliver services in the Bradford Metropolitan District.

Commenting on Gordons’ commitment, Age UK Bradford District’s director of income generation, Chris Alexander, said: “This is a fantastic contribution from Gordons’ people. Corporate teams are a key part of the Abbey Dash’s fundraising activities and we’re very pleased that Gordons is leading the way.

“The event is now in its 35th year and continues to raise awareness and vital funds for our services in and around Bradford and other parts of the country. Thank you to everyone taking part and we look forward to an excellent race.”

Last year, around 10,000 runners participated in the Age UK Leeds Abbey Dash, raising more than £250,000 for the charity.

Gordons’ partner, Victoria Davey, said: “Gordons’ people don’t do things by halves, so we wanted to make an ambitious fundraising commitment to Age UK in the Bradford district at our first main fundraising event.

“We’re very proud that so many of our staff have signed up, including some for whom this will be their first ever running event. We continue to gratefully accept donations for this important cause in the run-up to the race.”

Over the past eight years, Gordons has raised more than £160,000 for charities including homeless charity Centrepoint Bradford, national children’s charity KidsOut, Willow Young Carers Service, Marie Curie and The Friends of Alfie Martin.
