Attic rooms mean homeowners are loft in the lurch

The unfortunate case of the Weldin family is a good reminder to homeowners to make sure that they give their insurers accurate information about the property to be insured.

Here the homeowners had not declared to insurers the existence of two attic bedrooms in the property’s loft space. The property subsequently burnt down and the insurers refused to pay out as they were not aware that there was a loft space containing two attic bedrooms. The insurers did not insure houses with more than five bedrooms and the two attic bedrooms meant that the house had seven bedrooms.

Homebuyers need to be aware that they must provide accurate information to their insurers. otherwise they may invalidate their cover. This example shows how serious the consequences can be. Read the full article here
