Yorkshire private nursing & care homes business restructures and refinances for growth

One of Yorkshire’s leading private nursing and care homes businesses is now in a position to enjoy further growth thanks to a restructuring and refinancing deal carried out by Leeds and Bradford law firm Gordons and Barclays Commercial.

Following a sustained period of success, Shipley-based Czajka Care Group realised that it needed to consolidate its assets to form the foundations for ongoing expansion. The care group appointed Gordons and lawyers from the firm’s commercial property and corporate teams worked swiftly and seamlessly to restructure the business. Simultaneously, a team from Barclays Commercial in West Yorkshire provided £500,000 funding to The care group to enable the company to refinance its capital structure.

Konrad Czajka, managing director of The Czajka Care Group, said: “Over the past 26 years we have built the business to a stage where we now provide quality care for over 250 older, frail and younger disabled people.

“With a number of different sites and a mixed asset portfolio, it was clear that we needed to consolidate the care group to allow us to achieve our business objectives and continue to deliver exceptional levels of care. The teams from Gordons and Barclays Commercial provided us with pragmatic advice which gave us a great deal of clarity around the issues and has put the care group in a very strong position.”

Konrad Czajka and his family opened the care group’s first care home in Staveley Oaks, Bradford. The care group now also has a number of homes in Shipley and Keighley. The care group has also invested in retirement houses and apartments for over 55s. Facilities at its Fairmont Park development in Nab Wood, Bradford, include bowling greens, a club house with bar, a restaurant and a swimming pool. Similar facilities are also available at Currergate Mews in Steeton, Keighley.

Russell Briggs, relationship director with Barclays Commercial in West Yorkshire, said: “We are delighted to support Konrad and his family with this transaction which demonstrates Barclays are open for business and committed to the West Yorkshire market. The Czajka Care Group is at the forefront of nursing and residential care within Yorkshire and I look forward to seeing the company go from strength-to-strength in the future.”

Corporate partner, James Fawcett, led the transaction with support from corporate solicitor, Duncan Firman. “This was a complicated transaction, but one which we were able to manage efficiently and effectively thanks to our understanding of the sector in which the care group operates,” he said.

“We worked closely with Barclays Commercial and accountants Clough & Company to ensure that we kept up the momentum of the deal and delivered a robust solution. We are extremely pleased to have laid the foundations for further growth and have every confidence that The Czajka Care Group will continue to develop its strong proposition within the marketplace.”
