Leading bus operator Transdev Blazefield has decided Yorkshire law firm Gordons is just the ticket for providing human resources, employment and regulatory advice.

The Harrogate-based client has appointed its new provider after a competitive tender process to adopt an innovative approach – combine its extensive transport experience with its considerable legal and human resources (HR) expertise.

Transdev Blazefield provides bus services in North and West Yorkshire, plus Lancashire, through six subsidiary companies, centring on locations including Harrogate, Keighley, York and the Yorkshire coast.

Martin Gilbert, Transdev Blazefield’s chief executive, said of the new partnership: “We were impressed by Gordons cost-effective and joined-up approach, which means we can deal with one team and get on with our day job.

“We were also impressed with Gordons’ enthusiasm, straight-talking and knowledge of the bus industry. We’re looking forward to working in partnership with the Gordons team.”

The law firm’s extensive transport and logistics sector experience includes advising: Morley-based Hermes, the UK’s leading consumer delivery specialist; independent freight company Redhead International, whose headquarters are in Bradford; and York-based leading temperature-controlled food distribution business Read Boardall.

Gordons’ successful tender was compiled by its transport specialist Sheena Pickersgill, who has 15 years’ experience in the sector, including nine as executive director for corporate services at Metro, the West Yorkshire passenger transport executive.

Ms Pickersgill said: “We’re delighted to have been appointed by Transdev Blazefield and look forward to working with Martin and his team. Our businesses share common values of passion and performance, plus a commitment to working in true partnership.

“We believe in making things easy for our clients and that’s why we have HR and transport expertise sitting alongside our lawyers.”

Gordons’ new client, formed in 1991, has been part of the Transdev global passenger transport empire since 2006. The overall group has more than 100,000 employees in 27 countries, owns 60,000 vehicles, and earned revenues of 7.6bn euros (£6.4bn) in 2012.

One of the UK’s most successful law firms, Gordons has been established for about 170 years, has offices in Leeds and Bradford, employs 265 people and has a turnover of more than £25.3m.

Clients include Wm Morrison Supermarkets plc, construction and high performance materials manufacturer Saint Gobain, international brewers Molson Coors, greetings card retailer Card Factory and the world’s largest electrical heating business Glen Dimplex.
