Tuesday 18th August 2026
Office of Rail and Road (ORR) has prosecuted Network Rail after a pedestrian was seriously injured whilst walking in Rugby railway station. A boundary wall at the railway station collapsed and fell onto the pedestrian who suffered several fractured ribs, a punctured lung and a blood clot in their lungs.
Network Rail was responsible for the repair and maintenance of the railway station, however it failed to identify the boundary wall in its records and its poor condition.
Network Rail entered a guilty plea to an offence of section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and was fined £1.2 million plus costs of over £27,000.
