Influencer posts promoting vodka irresponsible by targeting young people

Two prominent influencers were engaged by AU Vodka to promote their products including a former Love Island contestant and streamer Kai Cenat. The influencers were well-known and popular amongst young people – more than 25% of their typical audience were likely to be under 18 years of age.

Despite the influencers being based in the USA, with their audiences being mostly based in the USA, the social media platform (TikTok) prohibited adverts for alcohol products in the UK. They also breached the CAP code of targeting alcohol products to those under 18 years of age. Further, people drinking alcohol or playing significant roles in ads for alcohol must not feature those under 25 years of age (the influencers were 24 and 23 respectively) at the time of the ads.
