HSE set out future plans and key focus areas at AGM

Monday 4th August 2025

HSE held their AGM on 29 July 2025 which was streamed for the public to view and submit questions. They explained the past year’s performance and set out targets for the future.

Key areas of focus include:

  • The focus of the last year and going forward is managing health at work, particularly mental health. Last year over 50% over inspections were targeted on health management. HSE made it clear that mental health should remain a focus for employers and it is the responsibility of the employer to identify and risk assess the cause of mental health problems in their organisation.
  • They are continuing to work alongside the EA to research into PFAS (forever chemicals) to understand if they need to impose further restrictions on its use in firefighting foam. An area to watch this year.
  • A consultation is expected in coming months to review RIDDOR regulations and consider improvements to the reporting process.
  • They have implemented the use of AI to identify risk areas across the construction sector and will be expanding this across other sectors this year
  • Approximately £15 million was collected in fee for intervention in the last year. They will be conducting a review into the fairness of FFI, however how the review will be conducted was not explained.
