Global technology company fined £600,000 after employee paralysed

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has fined a company after finding serious failures in their systems of work and failure to adequately train employees in safe working methods resulting in employees adopting unsafe practices.

The employee was carrying out working in the construction of a wind turbine when the structure collapsed paralysing her from the waist down. The incident took place at the root end of the blade, and the section weights 800kg before the addition of supplementary materials.

The company pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
