Environment Agency secures £275,000 from water company
Tuesday 14th July 2026
The Environment Agency has secured an Enforcement Undertaking from Anglian Water Services which will result in £275,000 being contributed towards environmental improvement projects across Lincolnshire.
Enforcement Undertakings are a civil sanction and constitute a legally binding agreement between the offending company and the Environment Agency.
The Environment Agency launched an investigation into an unauthorised discharge of sewage and non-compliance with permit conditions at a water recycling centre between August 2020 and September 2022.
The Environment Agency’s investigation identified multiple contributing factors, including underinvestment, and inadequate monitoring and management of both the treatment process and the sewer network.
The actual harm to the environment is unknown.
Having made an Enforcement Undertaking, the company is required to take steps to prevent them from making similar errors in the future.
