Complaint against online betting ad not upheld by ASA
Monday 17th November 2025
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) did not uphold the complaint made against RTSB Ltd.
The ad was an animated video seen on a YouTube channel which contained a shot of a Premier League football team and other football-related figures. The shot then moved to a football commentator who announced: “Spurs win the Europa League, sponsored by Match Bingo – where football meets the thrill of bingo.” A phone, the word “WIN”, a football and a bingo card was shown, alongside the Match Bingo logo and text that stated, “Play along with live sports and you could WIN CASH PRIZES”. The ad showed small text that read 18+ UK only. Bingo is a game of chance, please gamble responsibly” and featured the gamble aware logo.
The complainant argued that the animated ad contained Premier League footballers and would therefore have an appeal to children which is against the ASA’s rules on gambling advertisements.
The ASA rejected this complaint, reasoning that since the ad appeared in media where the under-18 audience was less than 25% on both the video and the YouTube channel, and platform tools had been employed to direct children away from the content, the ad complied with the CAP Code.
