CMA Increases Monitoring of Fuel Prices
Thursday 16th April 2026
The Competition and Markets Authority (“CMA”) has announced its plans to increase monitoring of petrol and diesel prices.
Firms have today been put on notice that requirements to provide revenue, costs, and sales data will be brought forward to expedite the CMA’s review of fuel margins made by businesses following the conflict.
The CMA will also consider the speed at which fuel prices rise and fall in relation to wholesale cost change, and whether there is any “rocket and feather” pricing to prevent businesses from exploiting the situation.
