ASA upheld complaint about irresponsible e-scooter promotion

Monday 13th October 2025

The ASA upheld a complaint against Currys for promoting an advert which included the language, “imagine pulling up on this”, which suggested e-scooters could be rode in public places, despite most of the ad showing the e-scooter in a Currys showroom.

It was held that despite the increasing popularity of e-scooters, consumer would not necessarily know the laws about them. The phrase “pulling up” would be widely understood as ‘arriving somewhere’, typically in a public setting. The lack of a disclaimer about the prohibition of riding e-scooters in public was also considered.
