Ian qualified as a solicitor in 2012 and joined Gordons in July 2026.

He specialises in construction law, with a particular focus on non-contentious work, and has previously acted for a range of both private and public sector clients including private developers, registered social landlords, housebuilders, and local authorities.

Ian has experience of standard form construction contracts (including JCT, IChemE and ICC), and other forms of contract such as professional appointments, collateral warranties, novation agreements and parent company guarantees.

Previous experience includes:

  • Advising a FTSE 250 retailer on the construction aspects of agreements for lease for new premises.
  • Acting for an independent offshore trust in relation to the redevelopment of a £20 million London residential property.
  • Assisting with negotiating the construction contracts relating to one of the UK’s largest regeneration projects, a £175 million mixed-use scheme in London.
  • Advising a government agency in relation to pumping station remedial works.
  • Acting for a developer in relation to a large student accommodation development.
  • Advising a housing association in relation to a payment dispute with a contractor.
