LEP calls for better connectivity in rail franchise consultation

TheBusinessDesk.com reported today (20 August 2014) that the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) have written to the Secretary of State supporting its four local authorities’ view that the TransPennine and Northern rail franchise consultation should include:

  • maintaining a direct train service from Cleethorpes to Manchester; and
  • restoring a direct train service between Hull and Manchester.

The latter could be worth as much as £5.3 million to the Humber economy and relieve traffic congestion. Lord Haskins, chair of the Humber LEP, said “We must make sure that decisions made about the franchises build on the good work being done in partnership here rather than detract from them.”
