Law firm Gordons raises over £21,000 for Little Heroes

Yorkshire law firm Gordons has raised more than £21,000 for Little Heroes, a regional charity for children with life-threatening cancer-related illnesses which it has supported for the past year.

Staff from the firm undertook a series of fund raising events including a firewalk and, in conjunction with client Leeds-based home delivery courier company Hermes, donated hundreds of unwanted children’s toys to the charity.

Little Heroes is based in Bradford and was established in 2008 by Colin Nesbitt, whose four-year-old son Reece was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer two years’ ago. After spending over 250 days in one year attending hospital with Reece whilst he underwent treatment, Colin resolved to establish a charity to support his son and those other children who are fighting cancer often against the odds. This led to him founding Little Heroes initially with the objective of providing £1,000 worth of toys every month to children being treated in the cancer ward at St James’s Hospital in Leeds.

Colin commented: “The money raised has helped me purchase a vehicle to deliver toys to children’s wards across the region which is a superb boost for Little Heroes. I would like to thank everyone at Gordons who got involved and helped in whatever way they could to support the charity. The toy donation by Hermes which the firm helped facilitate was also a marvellous gesture which provided many children with a great deal of happiness.”

Little Heroes’ continues to deliver toys to St James’s and other hospitals, but its rapid growth since its inception means Colin hopes to raise enough money to buy a mini-bus to take the siblings of patients on days out and ultimately build a day care centre.

John Holden, senior partner at Gordons, said: “We are very pleased to have been able to support Little Heroes and help an extraordinary man continue his inspirational work. Colin has an absolute dedication to Little Heroes and his energy and commitment are contagious. We are sure the charity will continue to go from strength-to-strength.”

The firm’s marketing and business development manager, Jane Richardson, who organised the firewalk and other events, said: “We have had a great deal of fun supporting Little Heroes over the past year and it has been a pleasure to raise money for such a worthwhile cause.”
