Yorkshire law firm Gordons has advised the UK’s leading independent grain merchant on a significant acquisition.

A team from the firm’s corporate and commercial property departments, headed by corporate partner Peter Barton, assisted Gainsborough-based Gleadell Agriculture over acquiring the entire share capital of Tabmellow, the holding company of Spalding-based Dunns (Long Sutton).

Gleadell is a significant supplier of seed and fertiliser to UK farmers, while Dunns specialises in premium pulse products for the human consumption market and is a major UK agricultural seed processor.

The companies have traded together for over 10 years and envisage Dunns deriving clear benefits from the support provided by Gleadell’s shareholders, Toepfer International and InVivo. The companies also believe Dunns’ expertise in the pulse and seed sectors will prove highly compatible with Gleadell’s international export pulse trading activities and expanding seed business.

Gleadell managing director David Sheppard commented: “We much appreciated the commercially-focused practical legal advice on the acquisition we were given by the Gordons team.”

Peter Barton said Gordons was proud of its relationship with Gleadell and delighted to help it make such an important strategic acquisition.

He said: “The deal has seen Gleadell acquire a respected leader in its field and become even better-placed to continue delivering a first-class service to customers in the pulse and seed sectors. The company will also be able to use its international connections to maximise the clear opportunities for Dunns which will arise in the future.”
