Katie’s story

Monday 12th May 2025

I started playing football in primary school with the boys on the playground and joined Menston Juniors boys from the age of five until 10, one of two girls who played for the team.

When I was 10, I joined Guiseley Girls and played there for five seasons until the team folded, as many girls sadly lost interest in playing.

I then trialled and joined Leeds United Women, playing in their U16s, U21s and U23s teams for five years before moving to Bradford City in 2021. I have now been at the club for four years, playing in the reserve team for three (captaining for two). I was selected this year by the manager to step up to the first team.

At Gordons, I am in the final stages of my law apprenticeship and will soon be a qualified lawyer.  I joined Gordons in 2019 and specialise in residential conveyancing with a particular focus on residential developments. I was excited to join Gordons because it was the first UK law firm to offer this alternative route to qualification when it launched the apprenticeship programme in 2011.

Playing football for nearly 20 years has taught me about discipline, handling pressure and teamwork. These are vital lessons which have helped me excel in my role in residential conveyancing and juggling work and study during my apprenticeship.

Gordons have sponsored me in my role at Bradford City and I am proud to be part of a firm that not only supports my professional development but also takes an interest and invests in my passion outside of work

I have had a great season at Bradford City Women and look forward to continuing playing football and finally qualifying as a lawyer in the coming months.
