Gordons launches Yorkshire Renewable Energy Forum

Thursday 22nd May 2014

This week Gordons were delighted to host the very first Yorkshire Renewable Energy Forum, a quarterly discussion group for industry professionals to create debate and share knowhow on topical issues.

Attendees at the event included:

Wm Morrison Supermarkets plc – market leaders in energy efficiency projects who have initiated innovative projects such as voltage optimisation; Rare Energy; and extensive refrige and LED lighting projects across their estate.

Town Centre Car Parks – which owns the largest city centre solar pv facility in the UK, at Clarence Dock Leeds;

GMI Energy – winner for best commercial solar installation at the Solar Power Portal Awards and The Energy Awards 2013 for their 1MW project at Morrisons Regional Distribution Centre at Bridgwater; and

St Pauls Developments – who were recently granted £2.45m of LEP funding for their £750m combined cycle gas turbine power station at Knottingley, Wakefield.

Some of the topics discussed included:

  • How can changes in energy use be managed to complement the main trading business?
  • How can the risk to infrastructure and trading be minimised during the installation phase of energy projects?
  • How can Grid capacity problems be resolved and do Government reforms such as Contracts for Difference and Capacity Auctions go far enough?
  • Should businesses start offering charging points for the emergence of electric cars?
