Gordons is Property Law Firm of the Year
Monday 1st October 2012
Gordons has won the Property Law Firm of the Year accolade at the annual Insider Yorkshire Property Industry Awards held at a presentation dinner at Leeds’ Royal Armouries Savile’s Hall.
The firm’s Commercial Property Department took the prize at the dinner attended by over 350 of the region’s top professionals.
Gordons’ entry focused on three major deals in which its specialists had been involved during the previous 12 months. These included the acquisition by supermarket group Morrisons of 10 former Best Buy Stores from Carphone Warehouse. This is seeing Morrisons’ Kiddicare baby product brand – already an internet provider with one store, in Peterborough – acquire an enhanced physical presence. The second Kiddicare store opened in Nottingham on 26 September 2012.
Deals featured in Gordons’ entry also included the £13m sale of the landmark Electric Press mixed use complex in Leeds by leading property investor British Land to GE CIF Trustees.
In addition, the submission included the total value of significant property transactions Gordons had advised on and its fee income during the previous 12 months. It also mentioned the number of partners and fee-earners in the firm’s Commercial Property Department.
Explaining Gordons’ achievement, the category’s judges said: “When you act for a company the size of Morrisons [a client for over 40 years] you have to be very, very good. Their turnover for a regional practice is absolutely magnificent.”
This latest award follows further award recognition for Gordons in 2012. The firm won the UK and Ireland Regional Team of the Year accolade in the annual Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners Private Client Awards. It was also runner-up in the Regional Law Firm of the Year category in the annual awards operated by leading sector publication The Lawyer. In addition, decisions are awaited after Gordons was shortlisted in two categories of the Law Society Excellence, Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business, and Yorkshire Lawyer Awards.
