Yorkshire law firm Gordons has advised the UK’s leading contract packer on its acquisition of Perpack, a Wakefield company that boasts market leading flow-wrapping services.

Mailway Packaging Solutions’ acquisition of Perpack comes soon after the Bradford-based company’s expansion into Scotland and the South of England. All three deals were handled by Gordons’ corporate partner Tim Ratcliffe and solicitor Duncan Firman.

Richard Bramma, Mailway’s chief executive, said: “Our strategy is to develop into a truly national packaging solutions business and become the first choice for all major brand owners. To do this we need to offer the broadest possible range of packaging capabilities and Perpack’s areas of expertise are ideal additions to our current offering.

“As we have come to expect of Gordons, we were provided with an excellent level of service throughout the acquisition process. This, combined with the clarity of communication and speed of response from our legal team, meant that we were able to proceed with confidence.”

Perpack works primarily in the food industry. It focuses on print and 3-D premium products such as promotional plastic toys and straws for drinks for its horizontal flow-wrapping services and loose, solid products such as confectionary, dried fruit, biscuits and pet food for vertical bagging. Mailway will also utilise Perpack’s expertise to enable it to bring its three existing sites up to BRC Food Grade A standard – an industry requirement for food filling operations.

Gordons’ Tim Ratcliffe said: “Mailway’s management team has a very clear growth strategy for the business and this latest acquisition opens up Perpack’s impressive customer base in the food sector to the company’s highly effective service-led proposition. It will present significant opportunities for growth which the business is now ideally placed to benefit from.”
