Law firm Gordons has advised Morrisons Supermarkets on its acquisition of wholesale flower business Flower World.

Flower World is one of the leading independent flower importers and distributors in the UK and provides fresh cut flowers, plants, bulbs, seeds, wreaths and bouquets to florists and retailers.

The acquisition by Morrisons is the latest step in the supermarket chain’s vertical integration strategy and will enable the retailer to continue to improve the quality and freshness of its flowers.

Gordons’ corporate solicitor Andy Brian advised Morrisons on the acquisition.

Jonathan Lill, Manufacturing Finance Director at Morrisons, said: “The acquisition of Flower World will help Morrisons build the best flower shop proposition. The guidance and service we received from Gordons was exceptional, despite some tricky issues being encountered. Gordons’ continued commitment and support continues to help us deliver our manufacturing expansion programme.”

Morrisons is one of the UK’s largest supermarket chains with 462 stores nationwide. It provides food and grocery products to eleven million customers each week and employs over 132,000 staff in its stores, factories, distribution centres and head office.

Andy Brian commented: “We were delighted to assist Morrisons on this deal. The acquisition is key for Morrisons as it will enable the business to enhance its offering to its customers by developing close relationships directly with the producers.”
