Gordons advises Bradford-based Mailway on Scottish acquisition

Monday 1st June 2009

Yorkshire law firm Gordons has advised Bradford contract packaging company Mailway on the acquisition of the contract packaging division of Benchmark Promotional Support Services in Glasgow.

The acquisition has enabled the launch of Mailway Scotland, which will operate alongside Mailway’s existing £12m business. The new business will create around 40 jobs and is aimed at alleviating the logistical, and subsequent financial issues, currently faced by some Scottish businesses particularly in the spirits industry.

Gordons corporate partner Tim Ratcliffe advised Mailway’s management team on the acquisition. Activity included acting for Mailway in relation to asset purchase and the preparation of an agreement for the occupation of the Benchmark property in Glasgow.

Richard Bramma, Mailway’s managing director, said: “We are very pleased that after months of planning Mailway Scotland has come to fruition. Gordons provided us with excellent advice throughout the course of the deal and ensured that its momentum was maintained. We are now working hard to achieve our aim of becoming the first choice contract provider for Scottish businesses.”

Initially, Mailway Scotland will service Benchmark’s current customer base and that of its parent company, Mailway Packaging Solutions. However, the plan is to quickly establish new customers in the spirits, food, cosmetics and health and beauty sectors.

Tim Ratcliffe commented: “This acquisition will enable Mailway’s management team to continue the implementation of the company’s growth strategy. It provides the ideal platform from which to deliver the Mailway’s innovative and technically-driven approach to contract packaging to new markets.”
