Gordons advises Alfred Brown shareholders on sale to Dormeuil

Tuesday 14th October 2025

Gordons has advised the shareholders of family business Alfred Brown, the world-renowned fabric weaver, on the sale of the company to luxury cloth maker Dormeuil Group.

The partnership unites two family companies that share the same values: a respect for heritage, an uncompromising commitment to quality, and a passion for textiles.

Partner and head of corporate, James Fawcett, led on the deal. He was supported by a team that included corporate lawyers Matt Watson and Kailani Hutchinson; commercial property lawyer, Jennifer Stead; and employment lawyer, Mike Patterson.

Established in Yorkshire in 1915, Alfred Brown has earned an international reputation for producing authentic, Made-in-UK fabrics from its own weaving mill.

Together, Dormeuil and Alfred Brown will continue to honour their traditions while embracing new opportunities to showcase the excellence of British textiles worldwide.

Gordons’ James Fawcett commented: “We have a great deal of experience in advising family businesses, so it was our pleasure to work closely with the Brown family.

“This starts what will be an exciting new partnership between two historic and globally highly regarded textile businesses.”
