Fire walk by law firm Gordons raises over £3000 for Little Heroes

Tuesday 30th March 2010

Twenty six intrepid employees of Leeds and Bradford law firm Gordons braved red hot coals and undertook a firewalk to raise over £3,000 for Little Heroes, a Yorkshire charity for children with life-threatening cancer-related illnesses.

Held at Bradford’s Cedar Court Hotel, the five hour event saw the Gordons team prepare for the life affirming test through a series of motivational exercises. Led by local life coach and firewalking instructor Lisa Clifford, they included breaking arrows and bending steel bars with their throats. Then, one by one, they each undertook the firewalk to shouts of support and applause from other firewalkers and spectators.

Little Heroes’ Colin Nesbitt, who also took part in the firewalk, commented: “It was a fantastic evening and it was great to see people confront their fears to create such a positive feeling of achievement that will stay with them forever. The fact that Gordons chose to do a firewalk to raise money for Little Heroes shows what a great bunch of people they are and I would like to thank everyone who took part and donated so generously.”

The charity is based in Bradford and was established in 2008 by Colin Nesbitt, whose four-year-old son was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer two years’ ago. After spending over 250 days in one year attending hospital with Reece whilst he underwent treatment, Colin resolved to establish a charity to support his son and those other children who are fighting cancer often against the odds.

Little Heroes’ initial objective was to provide £1,000 worth of toys every month to children being treated in the cancer ward at St James’s Hospital in Leeds. The charity is still doing that, but its rapid growth since its inception means Colin hopes to raise enough money to buy a mini-bus to take the siblings of patients on days out and ultimately build a day care centre.

Jane Richardson, business development and marketing manager at Gordons, said: “We all had an amazing time and would like to thank Colin and Lisa for creating such a novel way to raise money for the charity. Little Heroes is a truly inspirational charity led by an extraordinary man. We are all very pleased to have been able to help raise money for the outstanding work that Colin does.”
