Employment e-Brief – Employment law changes to take effect in April 2013

It is that time of year again, with a new tax year comes the familiar annual increase in the statutory payments rates.

This year on 6 April 2013 the Social Security Benefits Up-rating Order 2013 will make changes to social security benefits relating to employment including the headline changes to Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) and Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP).

• SSP will increase from £85.85 to £86.70
• SMP will increase from £135.45 to £136.78 
• Statutory Paternity Pay will increase from £135.45 to £136.78  
•  Statutory Adoption Pay will increase from £135.45 to £136.78
