Burlingtons Group Limited: SRA Intervention
Tuesday 4th August 2026
On 31 July 2026 the Solicitors Regulation Authority (‘SRA’) closed the practice Burlingtons Group Limited, of 5 Stratford Place, London, W1C 1AX (‘Burlingtons’). This is known as an intervention.
We are dealing with the closure for the SRA.
What does this mean?
If you were a client of Burlingtons, they can no longer act for you. You will need to find a new solicitor to act. Gordons are not acting for you. If you need help finding a new solicitor you can search for a new solicitor on the Law Society’s Find a Solicitor site, or you can call the Law Society on 020 7320 5650 Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00.
How do I get my file?
Electronic Files
Burlingtons used different systems to save client’s electronic files. We are in the process of identifying and arranging access to these various systems but this will take some time. As such, at this time, we cannot give a timescale for releasing all electronic files.
In the meantime, we must prioritise requests from clients who have contacted us with the most immediate/urgent matters, for example imminent completions.
If you have already instructed a new solicitor, it is possible that they will be able to progress your matter by requesting copy documents and correspondence from you, the other side’s solicitors or from the estate agent if you are buying or selling a property.
If you have instructed the solicitor who was dealing with your matter at Burlingtons to continue acting for you at a new firm, it would be helpful if they could clarify where they saved their electronic client files. This will hopefully enable us to locate and release these files as quickly as possible. Any information they can provide when requesting your file will assist.
Physical Files
We are collecting all live/ongoing client files previously held by Burlingtons. You can email us at burlingtons@gordonsllp.com or call us on 0113 227 2163 to check if we are holding your file and tell us where you would like us to send it. If we need any more information from you before sending your file, we will let you know.
What about deeds/wills/Lasting Powers of Attorneys (LPAs)/other original documents held at Burlingtons?
These documents will be collected separately from offsite storage by the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s archive department. If you want to get hold of these documents please contact the SRA’s archives team at InterventionArchiveFile@capita.co.uk or 0204 525 0250.
What has happened to old/archived files?
All old/archived files held in storage by Burlingtons will be collected for indexing by the SRA. If you want to request old/archived files please contact the SRA’s archives team at InterventionArchiveFile@capita.co.uk or 0204 525 0250.
Burlingtons were holding money for me. What should I do?
If you believe Burlingtons were holding money for you, you may be able to apply to the SRA Compensation Fund. As it is a discretionary fund, applications are considered using the criteria set out in the rules. You can find out more about the Compensation Fund here: SRA | Compensation fund | Solicitors Regulation Authority
