Transport for London fined £2 million after a pedestrian was killed crossing the road
Thursday 15th October 2026
Transport for London (TfL) has been convicted of breaching Regulation 17(1) of the Workplace Health, Safety, and Welfare Regulations 1992 relating to organisation of traffic routes after a pedestrian was struck by a double decker bus at an authorised pedestrian crossing causing fatal injuries.
The crossing was positioned in a way which prevented approaching bus drivers from clearly visualising the crossing. There was also confusion over the right of way for the crossing. TfL had failed to manage the risk and there had been five near misses at the same crossing in the two days before the incident.
Following the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigation, TfL was convicted and fined £2 million.
