Fly-tippers could lose driving licence under new court powers

Friday 15th May 2026

New measures under the Policing and Crime Act could see fly-tippers lose their driving licence as the court will have the power to add up to 9 penalty points to the licence of an offender for a single incident.

If 12 penalty points have been obtained within a three-year period, the offender will risk disqualification from driving.

Currently, the court has the power to impose fines, community and custodial sentences to fly-tippers.

The change forms part of the Waste Crime Action Plan.
