Thompson & Cooke: SRA Intervention

What has happened to Thompson & Cooke?

Thompson & Cooke has been closed down by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) on 29 April 2026.  This is known as an intervention. We are dealing with the closure for the SRA.

Thompson & Cooke practiced from 12 Stamford Street, Stalybridge, SK15 1LA and 100 Market Street, Stalybridge, SK15 2AB.

What does this mean?

If you were a client of Thompson & Cooke they can no longer act for you. You will need to find a new solicitor to act. Gordons are not acting for you.

If your file was transferred to a new firm prior to the intervention, you may wish to contact your new solicitor to confirm they hold your file.

If you need help finding a new solicitor you can search for a new solicitor on the Law Society’s Find a Solicitor site, or you can call the Law Society on 020 7320 5650 Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00.

How do I get my file?

We are collecting all remaining live/ongoing client files previously held by Thompson & Cooke. You can email us at intervention@gordonsllp.com or call us on 0113 227 0358 to check if we are holding your file and tell us where you would like us to send it. If we need any more information from you before sending your file, we will let you know.

What about deeds and wills held at Thompson & Cooke?

Wills and Deeds were transferred to Rosewood Law before the intervention. You can contact Rosewood Law at info@rosewoodlaw.co.uk or 01254 460 600.

Thompson & Cooke were holding money for me. What should I do?

The accounts of Thompson & Cooke are now closed and in the possession of the SRA. We/the SRA will be working to identify and contact those who are beneficially entitled to money in their accounts. In the meantime, if you wish to claim money held on your behalf urgently, you can make a claim to the SRA’s Compensation Fund. Details of how to claim can be found here: https://www.sra.org.uk/consumers/compensation-fund/  The SRA’s Compensation Fund will consider each claim with regard to its rules. We can’t guarantee the outcome of any claims made.
