Man sentenced after putting family at risk from illegal gas work

An unqualified man installed a combi gas boiler and gas pipework at a family home. However, an occupier could smell gas after the installation and contacted a gas distribution company who found three different gas leaks, leaving the family without hot water or heating for four weeks.
The HSE was alerted to the incident and found that the man did not hold any gas related qualifications and was not on the Gas Safe Register.
He pleaded guilty to breaching Regulations 3(1) and 3(3) of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 and was sentenced to a 12-month community order.
