NHS Trust fined after failing to manage Hand Arm Vibration (HAVs) risks
Friday 13th February 2026
An NHS Trust has been fined £40,000 after several employees developed HAVs related conditions following prolonged exposure to vibration from work equipment. The NHS Trust pleaded guilty to section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 (HSWA).
An investigation by the HSE revealed that the NHS Trust did not carry out adequate risk assessments regarding vibrating equipment. There were no records indicating the level of employee exposure or efforts to minimise it.
Businesses that use vibrating equipment should ensure they have risk assessments and logs in place to monitor employee exposure.
