Environment Agency Publishes Guidance on Assessing Noise

Thursday 11th December 2025

The Environmental Agency (EA) has published guidance on how companies should assess noise and vibrations when applying for an environmental permit for an operation.

The guidance states that any potential risk of noise must be assessed by a noise and vibration impact assessment (NIA). If potential risk is found, a noise and vibration management plan (NMP)will need to be submitted to show how the risk will be mitigated.

It is outlined within the guidance whether a NMP and an NIA will need to be submitted by an operator, and how operators can use the EA’s Noise Advisory Tool (NAT).
