HSE annual statistics 2024/25
Friday 28th November 2025
HSE has published its annual workplace health and safety statistics for 2024/25.
- 124 work-related fatalities reported, down from 138 last year.
- 680,000 self-reported work-related injuries and 59,000 injuries being reportable under RIDDOR. Slips, trips and falls on the same level accounted for 30% of non-fatal injuries.
- Musculo-skeletal disorders account for 27% of ill health reports. MSD rates showed a downward trend pre-pandemic and are now similar to 2018/19.
- 1.9 million workers reported suffering from work-related ill health with mental health conditions accounting for 52% of reports. Public admin/defence reported the highest rate of mental health conditions by industry type. This is generally trending upwards year on year.
- Occupational lung diseases continue to be a significant cause of work-related illness and deaths. There were approximately 11,000 deaths caused by previous exposures, 2,218 mesothelioma deaths and an estimated 22,000 new breathing or lung problems reported highlighting that management of occupational health is still a problem.
The figures are generally consistent on previous years. Areas that remain high align with HSE’s current inspection regime which focuses on management of mental health at work and occupational ill health more generally.
