CMA announces investigations into eight businesses

Tuesday 18th November 2025

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has announced that it is investigating online pricing practices of eight online businesses. A review of over 400 businesses undertaken by CMA has highlighted issues with compliance of online pricing practices, including drip-pricing and pressure selling, which prompted the opening of the investigations.

The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 (DMCCA) entered into force in April 2025 and sets out strict rules on price transparency to allow for fair-dealing and consumer confidence.

The investigations will consider whether these businesses have broken consumer law and if so, the CMA can use its new enforcement powers under DMCCA and avoid going through the court system. Failure to comply with the conditions of the DMCCA can lead to enforcement action, including fines of up to 10% of global turnover.
