ASA complaint against travel booking company upheld

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) upheld a complaint against travel booking site “On The Beach” regarding an ad on their website which featured a voiceover: “Be a booking hero and get free airport lounge access with On The Beach” and “Free lounge access *Terms apply”.

The complainant challenged the advertisement on the grounds that it omitted important information and was misleading.

On The Beach argued that they always made it clear to customers that there were terms and conditions.

The ASA upheld the complaint as the overall impression given by the ad was that so long as consumers complied with the conditions of the offer, they would receive the free airport lounge passes. It was not made clear to the consumers that there was a cap on these passes and as such the complaint was upheld.
