Product safety regulator tells large online marketplace and consumers to remove waterproof car seat covers

Thursday 23rd October 2025

The Office for Product Safety and Standards has asked a multinational online marketplace to remove waterproof car seat covers from sale and has warned consumers not to use them.

The car seat covers present a risk of injury to consumer as it was advertised as having an airbag applicable seem, which turned out not to be accurate. If the product is fitted in vehicles with airbags, the seat cover may prevent the correct activation of the airbag during a collision.

Affected consumers should stop using the product immediately and return it to the marketplace for a refund.
