New WEEE requirements for online marketplaces

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (Amendment, etc.) Regulations 2025 enter into force on 12 August 2025. The purpose of the amendment is to expand on the definitions for producers and online marketplace (OMP) producers and to set out requirements and exceptions to The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2013 for OMP producers.
The requirements for OMP producers apply to those that supplies EEE to private households in the UK which originate from a person who is not established in the UK e.g. where the supplier is based outside of the UK but sells directly to customers via an OMP.
The regulations mean that OMP producers that sell EEE from non-UK supplier will no longer be exempt from WEEE reporting.
