Gordons Revealed as One of UK’s Top 100 Employers for School Leavers and Finalists in Top Legal Employer’s Category

Gordons has been recognised as one of the UK’s top 100 employers for school leavers, following a nationwide survey.

As a result, the firm has also been named as a finalist in The School Leaver Awards ‘Top Employer – Law’ category. The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony held at The Sheraton Grand, London, on May 17.

Carried out by careers advice company AllAboutSchoolLeavers, the survey places Gordons in a top 100 employers list which includes the BBC, Bank of England, BT, Bentley Motors, GCHQ, Goldman Sachs, National Grid, Nestlé and Volvo.

Young people working in the school leaver training world were asked to complete employee satisfaction surveys, covering every aspect of their working lives. This ranged from job satisfaction and career progression, to company culture and work/life balance.

This is the latest recognition for Gordons’ pioneering apprenticeship programme which the firm launched in 2011. Since then, Gordons has taken on 19 apprentices. Last year saw the programme celebrate its first two graduates, Bryony Russell and Megan Boldison, who were both 23-years-old when they completed the programme.

Gordons created its apprenticeship programme to provide an alternative route into the profession for bright 18-year-old school leavers without them needing to attend university. It was the first law firm to offer an apprenticeship taking its chartered legal executive lawyers to the maximum Level 6 – an honours degree equivalent – rather than the Level 3 offered by similar schemes.

The programme has won multiple awards and led to Gordons being described as “leading the way on social mobility in the legal profession” by the then Social Mobility Commission chair, Alan Milburn.

Commenting on this latest accolade for GAP, Gordons’ managing partner, Paul Ayre, said: “Launching our apprenticeship programme was one of the best things we have ever done. It’s been really beneficial to our business, inspiring our colleagues and winning support from clients. It’s great when the programme receives external recognition such as this.”
