As well as managing a team of more than 30 lawyers and assistants, James provides corporate and commercial contract advice with a particular focus on mergers and acquisitions and private equity transactions. James has particular expertise in retail and the motor trade and works with some of the region’s most well know businesses, including JCT600, Elmwood Design and Congregational & General Insurance.

James has extensive knowledge of private equity work and M&A transactions. He is described by Chambers and Partners as “extremely thorough” and “very responsive, friendly and supportive.”

Significant deals that James has advised on include:

  • the management buyout of Card Factory, backed by Charterhouse Capital Partners
  • JCT600’s acquisition of Gilder Group
  • the sale of Intelligent Data Systems to the AA Group
  • the sale of Westex Carpets to AIM-listed Victoria PLC
