Curryosity to bring new dimension to Saltaire’s restaurant scene

Thursday 15th December 2016

A new South Asian restaurant is set to open its doors in Saltaire and rewrite the rules of what a high street curry house should be like, with an extensive breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu packed with local produce.

The Curryosity concept was launched on December 2 by VIP guests Sir Gary Verity, chief executive of ‘Welcome to Yorkshire’, and Tour de France race director Christian Prudhomme, who was in Saltaire to unveil the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire route.  The restaurant, located at 69 Bingley Road, will officially open its doors to customers at the end of December.

Curryosity is the brainchild of Zulfi Karim, founder of the World Curry Festival, and is set to become a destination eatery in the World Heritage Site village.  The casual dining restaurant will serve lunch and dinner daily, with speciality Indian breakfasts available on the weekend.

Commenting on the new venture, Zulfi said: “I am excited to be heading in a new direction, and to be opening what I am confident will be a very popular Saltaire eatery and launching the Curryosity brand. Saltaire’s rich heritage and the network of local food producers make this the ideal location for the restaurant, and it was wonderful to welcome Sir Gary and Christian as our first official customers. I hope to see them here again in the future, and to welcome all the tourists who will undoubtedly flock to the town for the Tour de Yorkshire.”

Leisure and hospitality sector expert and partner at Gordons, Simon Mydlowski, advised Zulfi on the new venue.  Simon and his colleagues arranged for the venue’s existing tenants to vacate the premises, and advised on the lease.

Zulfi continued: “I have worked with Gordons for many years and Simon and his colleagues have always provided me with professional advice and encouragement.  Simon’s extensive knowledge of the restaurant sector was invaluable to me, and he has fully supported me throughout this process.”

Local producers who will act as suppliers are also set to benefit from the custom the restaurant brings to town.  Zulfi’s vision is to create a restaurant rooted in the local community, with ingredients sourced locally from growers and producers in the Bradford area to create his menu.

Commenting on Curryosity, Simon said:  “Zulfi’s knowledge of South Asian cuisine combined with his passion for the Curryosity concept will make for a very successful venture.  I am sure that people from Saltaire and from the rest of Yorkshire will flock to the restaurant to experience the vibrant atmosphere and the exceptional food.”
