Property
We have many years experience of dealing with all the property requirements of retail businesses whether on retail parks or high streets, disposing or acquiring freehold or leasehold shops, superstores, retail warehouses and distribution centres, one offs or portfolios.
Corporate and commercial
Our understanding of the retail sector has developed over many years of acting for retailers and their suppliers. We focus on effective implementation of all types of corporate transactions. Our commercial team advise retail clients on a full range of commercial issues.
Commercial Litigation
We know that retail clients wish to avoid litigation because it diverts money and time from running their business. We give our clients an early assessment of the merits of any dispute and any financial consequences. We will consider at early stage alternative ways to resolve disputes. If a decision is taken to pursue or defend a claim we will work hard for a cost effective and successful resolution.
Construction
Our 7 full-time specialist construction and engineering lawyers act for clients on retail scheme procurement and mixed use developments. Projects include the re-development of the Myrtle Shopping Centre at Bingley, acting for Wm Morrison Supermarkets plc on numerous retail schemes. We handled the construction and engineering procurement documents for the major Foss Islands development scheme in York.
Employment
We act principally on behalf of employers and our emphasis is very much on protecting employers’ interests. Our team handles all the employment law work for Wm Morrison Supermarkets plc and Halfords Plc. We offer a full employment tribunal defence service including all advocacy and provide management helpline services for many retail clients. Other retail clients include JCT600, Harrison and Clough, Charles Birch Limited.
Regulatory
We assist retailers facing investigation and prosecution by Trading Standards, HSE, OFT, Environment Agency and other enforcement agencies. We can offer practical risk management advice on compliance with regulations, such as General Product Safety Regulations, Data protection, and have advised in connection with Dawn Raids by the OFT for alleged breaches of Competition law.
Defendant Personal Injury
We act for national retailers Grattan and Wm Morrison Supermarkets plc. We reject the high volume PI factory approach of our competitors, defending claims from start to finish. We make it a priority to understand the retail sector and help our clients make informed decisions about which claims to fight.
