Matthew Breakell is a Solicitor in Gordons' regulatory department.

Matthew specialises in defending prosecutions brought by regulatory agencies and has a broad experience in dealing with a variety of regulators from the Marine Fisheries Agency through to the Serious Organised Crime Agency.

Matthew’s particular area of expertise is in defending criminal investigations into directors and companies including prosecutions brought by the Health and Safety Executive (“HSE”), Environment Agency (“EA”), Police Financial Crime Units and Trading Standards.  He has extensive experience in caution interviews including representing company directors at the police station in relation to Corporate Manslaughter investigations; land owners under investigation for pollution; and alleged fraudsters.  He also has substantial advocacy experience and often represents clients at court.  Matthew also deals with coroners inquest work and licensing.

Matthew has acted for Plc and FTSE 100 companies, as well as SME's and individuals.  He was instrumental in the reduction of hefty confiscation orders imposed on a number of individuals who had appeared regularly on the BBC.

Matthew is a member of the Health and Safety Lawyers Association and the Association of Regulatory & Disciplinary Lawyers.
