Richard Piper is a Partner and Head of Gordons' construction department.
Richard has specialised in construction law for 15 years and clients have commented that he is an outstanding lawyer, who can provide real value. His main focus of practice revolves around development and construction procurement, litigation and dispute management, with relevant experience in relation to renewable energy, environmental, telecoms (roof top) infrastructure and wind farm project procurement.
He is highly regarded by clients because of his experience and expertise across both contentious and non-contentious construction issues. Richard has significant experience in commercial property development and construction, specialist civil engineering contracts, process plant engineering contracts, retail and shopping centre development, hotel and leisure facility procurement contracts, litigation, arbitration and expert determination, mediation and ADR.
He acts for a number of contractors, commercial property developers, retail clients, engineering companies, building contractors and specialist sub-contractors, major lending banks and owner-managed businesses.

- the procurement of a major new retail park and highways infrastructure at Foss Islands, York
- the procurement of a new city centre hotel scheme in Leeds
- the procurement of £25million of new student and residential accommodation in Sheffield
- the procurement and funding of a new specialist hospital wing at Bradford Royal Infirmary
- the procurement of a new regional distribution centre for a major food retailer
- the redevelopment of a shopping centre in Bingley.
Richard is a high profile name within the Yorkshire market place, and is Secretary of the North East Branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He is also a Visiting Lecturer at Leeds Metropolitan University in the Construction Law MSc Degree course.
