Gordons advises on Card Factory acquisition

The corporate and property teams at Yorkshire law firm Gordons recently advised on the management buyout of Wakefield-based greetings card business Card Factory, backed by funds advised by Charterhouse Capital Partners LLP.

Card Factory was founded in 1997 and is the UK’s leading value greetings card retailer. The company now has 430 stores and employs around 4,300 people. The acquisition is one of the largest corporate transactions to have taken place in the region for a number of years.

The company’s management team was advised throughout the deal by head of corporate, John Holden, and partner, James Fawcett, with assistance from the firm’s head of banking and finance, Paddy Sturman and employment partner, Paul Stokey.

Gordons also provided property advice to the selling shareholders in relation to the company’s property portfolio. The team of eight property lawyers from the firm was led by partner, Janine Eaglesfield.

Commenting on the deal, John Holden said: “We are delighted to have supported Card Factory in this important and exciting stage of the company’s development.”
