Gordons retail update - Akbars take on the Midlands

Akbars, one of Yorkshire’s highest profile Indian restaurant chains is about to open its ninth restaurant.  The new 300 seater restaurant in Edgbaston, Birmingham will serve the restaurant chain’s award-winning Asian cuisine and will have a private function suite that can cater for up to 200 guests.

Established in 1995 in Bradford, Akbars currently has restaurants throughout the North of England. The restaurant chain was named Business of the Year for the second year in succession at the 2009 Asian Business Development Network Awards.

Shabir Hussain, managing director of the chain said “Our expansion into Birmingham is an exciting one. It already has an excellent reputation for Asian cuisine so we are looking forward to offering our particular style of food and service within such a vibrant city restaurant scene.”

Gordons have worked with Akbars for the last 5 years and have played an important advisory role in their continued growth.  Gordons worked with Akbars on their leases at Cafe Akbar in Bradford as well as their restaurants in Manchester, York, Rotherham, Middlesbrough, Eastgate Leeds, Bradford and recently  the agreement for lease for a new 300 seat restaurant in Newcastle City Centre anticipated to open in January 2010.

Commercial property solicitor Simon Mydlowski and regulatory solicitor Satpal Roth advised Akbars on the Birmingham restaurant’s lease and licensing arrangements.
