Latest shortlistings confirm Gordons one of region’s top businesses

Tuesday 11th September 2012

Gordons has been recognised as one of Yorkshire’s top businesses through being shortlisted for two prestigious awards.

The Firm is a finalist in two categories in the Excellence in Business Awards, sponsored by the Yorkshire Post. The first category is best business with turnovers of £10m to £50m and the second is Outstanding Employer of the Year.

Now in its seventh year, the Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business Awards is one of the region’s leading enterprise recognition schemes. The prizes highlight “the world-class companies and individuals playing a vital role in delivering prosperity and growth to Yorkshire through ingenuity, inspiration and hard work.”

Paul Ayre, Gordons’ managing partner, said the firm was delighted at these shortlistings.

He said: “Our shortlisting for the best business award reflects our 11 consecutive years of growth and the progress we’ve made with  our ‘people first, lawyers second’, approach to removing barriers, jargon and formality to help clients succeed in business.

“The Best Employer shortlisting is very pleasing. In the last 12 months we’ve appointed over 50 legal advisers. We’ve also implememented the legal sector’s first apprenticeship scheme, which offers careers in the profession to bright youngsters who would previously have been denied them and we now have 8 Apprentices working here”

Winners of the Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business Awards will be announced at an event in Leeds on 1 November. Alistair McGowan will be the master of ceremonies and the gathering will be addressed by business secretary Vince Cable.

The latest shortlistings follow other recent Award recognition for Gordons. The Firm was  runner-up in the Regional Law Firm of the Year category of the annual awards operated by sector publication The Lawyer earlier in 2012. In addition, verdicts are awaited after Gordons were shortlisted for the Private Client Team of the Year accolades in the National Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners and Yorkshire Lawyer awards, Managing Partner of the Year category of the latter scheme and Law Firm of the Year section of the Insider Yorkshire Property Awards.
