Gordons Apprenticeship Programme (GAP)



Introduction

With our annual Gordons Apprenticeship Programme (GAP), we are looking for five bright and determined school leavers to join our business and become qualified legal executives.  If you are leaving school next summer (2012) and looking to get into a career with great prospects then ‘GAP’ could be for you.

The programme is aimed at 17-18 year olds who have the drive and ability to gain high levels of skills and qualifications.  Through practical experience and training you will gain valuable skills to set up an excellent career in law.

We are keen to welcome candidates who have shown evidence of determination and a willingness to overcome challenges, and particularly those who are the first member of their family to apply to Higher Education (excluding older brothers and sisters).

What does the programme entail?

The programme consists of a mixture of work based training and education.  Apprentices will work at Gordons and study for ILEX Examinations (Institute of Legal Executives) which, on average, will take four years of part-time study attending one day or evening class per week to qualify.  Exams are held twice per year.

Stage 1 – Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice (this is set at ‘A’ level standard).

Stage 2 – Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law and Practice (this is set at honours degree level).

On completion of both stages of the qualification you will will be required to undertake a further two years employment, before becoming a legal executive lawyer at the firm.



Areas of experience offered

'GAP' offers practical experience across the following areas of law: Business recovery & restructuring, commercial contracts; commercial litigation; commercial property, corporate; debt recovery; employmentfamily; personal injury (claimant); personal injury (defendant); planning & environmental; personal law; residential conveyancing; and tax.   



Are you right for us?

To be eligible for ‘GAP’ you must:

  • Have gained 3 or more A levels at grade B or above in academic subjects this summer
  • Have gained 5 GCSEs at grade A or above in academic subjects including English and Mathematics
  • Reside within easy travelling distance of our Leeds and Bradford offices
  • Be available to attend the work experience week at our offices in Leeds and Bradford


Benefits of GAP

  • Mentoring support is provided throughout the apprenticeship training by qualified staff who have completed the ILEX or CLC course
  • An annual salary of £10,390 per annum (equivalent to £200 per week) which will be reviewed on an annual basis
  • 24 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays per year
  • All training fees will be paid by the firm


Key dates - 2012

  • On-line application deadline – ongoing 
  • Interviews will take place – once deadline for applications expired
  • 1 week work experience placement – 30 July 2012 
  • Apprenticeship offered (conditional of grades) – August 2012 
  • Apprenticeship programme commences – September 2012
